Hi! I’m Erika Diaz Lakey. After 17 years in photography, including 3 years managing a portrait studio, I took the leap and started my own business in November 2023 and I’ve never been happier.
I specialize in capturing real, candid moments, with a growing focus on weddings and elopements. Whether it’s an intimate desert elopement or a full celebration, I’m drawn to the genuine emоtion, connection, and in-between moments that make your day uniquely yours.
My approach is relaxed, fun, and a little goofy, so you can feel comfortable and truly be yourself in front of the camera.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m spending time with my husband and daughter, reading, or hiking throughout Joshua Tree National Park.

2009
My journey begins
I began my photography career in 2009 with no prior experience, but little did I know that a simple job would spark a lifelong passion. I was hired by a portrait studio in Roseville, MN, and what started as just a way to make a living quickly turned into something much more. I fell in love with capturing the beauty of families and kids, the genuine moments and emotions that made each session special. About a year and a half later, I had the opportunity to manage a photo studio in Richfield, MN, where I gained invaluable training and knowledge that shaped my skills and artistic vision. After a few years in portrait photography, I decided to take a break and shift my focus toward landscapes, diving into the art of light and composition in nature. I’m incredibly grateful for the journey that has brought me to where I am today, and I cherish every lesson learned along the way.
2026
Present Day
I’m proud to say I’ve come full circle. After spending years in the Minneapolis area capturing the beauty of nature and city life, I moved back to California permanently in 2017. Life had its way of unfolding, and along the journey, I met my amazing husband, welcomed our beautiful baby girl, and eventually found myself in a place where I could return to my first love: portrait photography. I took the leap and started my own photography business, and it’s been an incredible ride ever since. I’ve had the privilege of working with so many wonderful clients, each one reminding me of the passion and joy that sparked my journey back in 2009. Every portrait I capture reinforces my love for telling stories through photos, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to do what I love every day.
My Location
I’m based in the stunning Joshua Tree area, capturing everything from intimate portraits to breathtaking landscapes. I also offer my services throughout the Coachella Valley and the High Desert, bringing the beauty of this unique region to life through my lens.
